RoadState exists to measure roads — not people. The network is designed so contributors can help improve road-quality visibility without creating an identity-based tracking system.

Mission

Build a nationwide, crowd-powered “road-state” view that helps drivers, fleets, and communities understand which roads are smooth, which roads are rough, and where conditions are changing — using aggregated signals.

What we collect

Short-window aggregates (not raw trails)
Quality / analyzable flags (data quality)
Approximate location needed to map to road segments
Window timestamps (for trends, not personal history)

What we do not collect

Names, emails, phone numbers (not required)
Advertising IDs or cross-app tracking IDs
Personal location-history features
Contacts, photos, mic recordings

Where the rules live

The standards are published in the repo and meant to be readable by regular humans.
