About & Transparency

RoadState exists to measure roads — not people. The network is designed so contributors can help improve road-quality visibility without creating an identity-based tracking system.

Mission

Build a nationwide, crowd-powered “road-state” view that helps drivers, fleets, and communities understand which roads are smooth, which roads are rough, and where conditions are changing — using aggregated signals.

What we collect

  • Short-window aggregates (not raw trails)
  • Quality / analyzable flags (data quality)
  • Approximate location needed to map to road segments
  • Window timestamps (for trends, not personal history)

What we do not collect

  • Names, emails, phone numbers (not required)
  • Advertising IDs or cross-app tracking IDs
  • Personal location-history features
  • Contacts, photos, mic recordings

Where the rules live

The standards are published in the repo and meant to be readable by regular humans.
